Child abuse case study Definition Child abuse is defined as any sexual, physical or psychological mistreatment of a child, child abuse as any act or series of acts of omission or commission instituted by a parent or caregiver that directly results in harm or a threat of harm to the child in question, (Wikipedia, 2015) Child abuse can occur in a child s home, or in the organizations, schools or communities the child interacts with, (Herrenkohl, 2005). There different way in which child can be abused these include; Child neglect, physical maltreatment, shaken baby syndrome, sexual abuse and emotional abuse. Types of Child Abuse Child neglect is the failure, by a parent, guardian or caretaker, either intentionally or through negligence or inability, to take actions necessary to give a young child with minimally sufficient food, clothes, shelter, medical care, oversight, mental stability and increase, or other vital attention, (Herrenkohl, 2005). Physical maltreatment includes physical aggression directed at a kid via an adult. Physical abuse takes many forms, as well as the results are far-ranging. Physical abuse may create wounds, bruising or swelling, break of a bone, internal injuries of the body, organs, or head (subdural hematoma), burns, or the departure of the little one, (Kemp, 2008).
